In this lesson you will examine the last of the periodic trends, but most significant, electronegativity (EN) trend.
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- define electronegativity
- describe the trend in electronegativity across a period (right to left) and down a group.
- explain the rational for the observed trend in electronegativity both across a period and down a group.
- use electronegativity differences (DEN) to predict the type of chemical bonding between two atoms (i.e. Nonpolar covalent, Polar Covalent, Mostly Ionic).
Below is a video lesson on the Electronegativity Trend, and Bond Character. Please watch it closely and take detailed notes.
