In this lesson you will introduce to both carbohydrates and lipids. You will learn about the various types of
carbohydrates and lipids, their properties as well as how both macromolecules are synthesized.
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- describe the structure of important biochemical compounds: carbohydrates and lipids.
- use appropriate terminology related to the structures of carbohydrates and lipids including: monosaccharides, disaccharides, polysaccharides, structural isomers, glycerol, tryglycerols, phospholipids, glycosidic linkages, ester linkages, phosphodiester linkages.
- describe the major roles that both carbohydrates and lipids play in a cell.
Let’s start by looking at carbohydrates in the video lesson below. Please take down notes as you watch this video lesson.
The second video lesson below introduces you to lipids. Once again watch the video lesson and take downs of the major points.
To support your learning, below is a summary on Polysaccharides. Please print it out and use it as a reference when preparing for a quiz or test.
Below is a summary of Lipids. Please print it out and use it when preparing for a test or quiz.
