I could not find the calculus forum, so I thought I should ask here. I am having some difficulties with a homework question and was wondering if you could please explain it to me:
"A trough is to be made by bending a long rectangular piece of tin 3
feet wide. The cross-section of the trough is an isosceles trapezoid
with sides making angles of 120 degrees with the base. Find the
dimension of the cross-section which gives a maximum capacity"
The questions states that the base is 1ft, the top is 2ft and the height is √3/2ft
